Posting Summary

Assist Supervisor and act as Lead technician in the responsibility of coordinating the work of the in-house technicians, workers and outside contractors. Delegate work assignments, monitor/review quality of work, schedule staff, and provide technical assistance and/or training. Responsible for daily operations with the supervisor available to consult on problems and policy decisions. Assist in the design and management of projects involving asbestos, lead, microbial, PCB’s, water intrusion and HVAC duct cleaning and other indoor air quality contaminants in accordance with State and Federal regulations and UVM procedures and practices. Perform inspections and investigations of suspect asbestos, lead, microbial, PCB’s, water intrusion and HVAC duct cleaning and other Indoor Air Quality contaminants as required. Provide technical assistance within established guidelines in support of safety and training programs. Participating member of the UVM Confined Space Rescue Team. Participate in equipment evaluation, purchase, maintenance and care. Promote a work place culture which encourages safety within the field and shop. Operate University vehicle. Report to the Facilities Trades Supervisor and actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

High School Diploma and five years experience in the asbestos and lead industry required. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and current issues in both disciplines required. Certified or ability to be certified within 180 days in the State of Vermont as an: Asbestos Contractor Supervisor, Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Project Monitor, Lead Supervisor and Lead Inspector. Demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot problems. Computer skills required. Valid driver’s license and driver’s check required. Because research indicates a high medical risk when working with asbestos, smokers will not be considered. Must use breathing apparatus. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of physical screening.
