POSITION: The Forestry Program in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources (RSENR) at The University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a full-time, academic year position as a Lecturer in forestry. We seek a dedicated educator with a broad background in forestry applications and field skills, committed to delivering training and education to undergraduate students in forestry and related natural resources fields.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach and develop courses in the undergraduate forestry program, including courses such as dendrology, forest measurements, small woodlot management, and forestry field camp, and contribute to the School-wide Core Curriculum. As a 10-month position, there will also be opportunities for the successful candidate to develop, participate, and receive funding for summer research, particularly as part of broader interdisciplinary, school-wide efforts centered on the UVM School Forests. Other duties will include advising forestry undergraduate students, assisting with forestry student clubs and activities and field equipment maintenance, and outreach to Vermont state government, U.S. Forest Service, the regional non-profit community, and others on issues related to sustainable forest management. General teaching expectations are two courses per semester, in addition to advising.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in forest science, forest ecology, forestry, or a related natural science field (B.S. in forestry preferred); possess strong quantitative and technical skills; have academic teaching experience; have excellent communication skills, and show commitment to promoting diversity in educational and research experiences. Candidates with a combination of both academic and professional experience relevant to this position are particularly encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION: Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and contact information for three references to www.uvmjobs.com. Inquiries may be made to Dr. Anthony D’Amato, Chair, Forestry Search Committee, at awdamato@uvm.edu. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and/or service. Applicants are requested to include in their cover letter information about how they will further this goal. Review of applications will begin on December 4th and will continue until the position is filled. We anticipate a start date of May, 2018.

SETTING: The University of Vermont’s campus is situated between the Green and Adirondack Mountains and is located in Burlington, the largest city in Vermont, with an increasingly ethnically and culturally diverse population. RSENR has about 45 tenure-track, research, and teaching faculty, 35 staff, 600 undergraduates, and 100 graduate students in both Master’s and Ph.D. programs. Research labs include the five university owned research forests, the UVM natural areas network, and the Aiken Forestry Science Laboratory jointly operated with the U.S. Forest Service, Northern Forest Research Station.

The University of Vermont is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
Applications from women and people from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged.
