Posting Summary

This is a 1-year position aimed at facilitating a new project regarding the molecular basis of cardiovascular disease. The technician will perform routine to complex laboratory functions in support of University research examining the synthesis and assembly of cellular proteins in mouse cardiac muscle. Responsible for management of a mouse colony, administration of deuterium labeled water and adenoviral vectors with GFP-proteins for protein labeling. Isolate cells from mouse hearts by collagenase disassociation using a Langendorff preparation. Assist with total internal fluorescence microscopy and/or confocal microscopy imaging to record the motion of the labeled proteins. Assist in processing of the microscopy images quantifying protein movement as well as mass spectrometry data quantifying protein turnover. This position may require temporary travel to another institute to learn new techniques.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field and at least one year experience in a biological laboratory required.
Ability to work independently and effective communication and organizational skills required. Ability to work with mice and maintain mouse colony required.
