Posting Summary

Perform cell culture, immunology, and molecular biology assays to study the human immune response to infectious pathogens for the Vaccine Testing Center in the Department of Medicine. Develop and perform assays to improve the correlates of protection relevant to rotavirus and other infectious diseases. Perform neutralization and virus binding assays. Compile, analyze and present data. Serve as lab safety officer, and assist with laboratory maintenance and operation. Prepare reagents and maintain laboratory supplies. Collaborate with Investigators, laboratory manager, junior faculty, graduate students, and other technicians. Assist with writing of Standard Operating Procedures, abstracts, methods, and preparation for presentations. Assist laboratory members in processing clinical specimens for clinical research trials.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field and three years prior research laboratory experience to include experience with mammalian and insect cell lines required. Experience with primary human cell culture, molecular biology and virology techniques required. Solid mathematics required. Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Effective writing and organizational skills. Trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or the ability to obtain.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with immunological techniques (cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry etc.) highly desirable.

Experience in a clinical research laboratory involved in human clinical research trials desirable.

Special Conditions Contingent on continued funding, Occasional overtime/weekend hours required, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees
