Posting Summary

Perform clinical virology and immunology assays of dengue and other flavivirus vaccines. Perform cell culture, immunology, and molecular biology assays to study the immune response to infectious pathogens for the Vaccine Testing Center. Perform clinical virology and immunogenicity assays of dengue and other flavivirus for clinical research trials. Compile, analyze and present data. Maintain laboratory and order supplies. Work with the Principal Investigator, laboratory manager, and other technicians to update protocols and develop new assays. Assist with writing of abstracts, methods, and preparation for presentations. May also perform immunology/cellular/molecular biology assays to study the immune response to other infectious pathogens.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field and prior research laboratory experience and/or laboratory coursework required. Experience with cell culture (especially primary human cells), molecular biology and virology techniques.

Must be able work collaboratively, as well as independently. Must be organized and precise in lab work and documentation.

Solid science, mathematics and computer skills required to include proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications and familiarity with software and fundamentals of programming required. Effective writing skills required.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with immunological techniques (flow cytometry, cell cloning, ELISA, etc.) highly desirable. Experience in a clinical research laboratory involved in human clinical research trials.Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel desirable.

Special Conditions Contingent on continued funding, Occasional overtime/weekend hours required, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees
