The Department of Anesthesiology at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont /University of Vermont Medical Center, in affiliation with the University of Vermont Medical Group, is seeking a Board certified or Board eligible Pain Medicine Attending Anesthesiologist with an interest in supporting our teaching, research, clinical and administrative missions. The ideal candidate would have interest and expertise in utilizing complementary medicine approaches such as acupuncture, yoga and meditation. Additionally the ideal candidate would have expertise and certification in Addiction Medicine and be comfortable prescribing oral opioid replacement therapies. The clinical site of this position will be the Complex Pain Management Clinic, which is described below. This is a clinical scholar pathway faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level based at the University of Vermont Medical Center with an expected 80% time commitment. The position includes a three-year 40% commitment for protected time to allow the recipient to develop programs that will secure funding for further academic work.

University of Vermont Medical Center is a busy academic hospital with a Level-1 trauma center and is the only location for tertiary referrals for the catchment area of Vermont and northern upstate New York. The Anesthesiology department is an academic practice consisting of 44 full and part-time anesthesiologists, 23 nurse anesthetist/anesthesia assistants, a residency program, and a pain fellowship. The Complex Pain Management Clinic is a multidisciplinary group consisting of practitioners from Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, and UVM Integrative Health with appropriate support personnel. The clinic is a referral resource for patients with chronic pain and the frequently associated co-morbidities of psychiatric illness and/or substance use. The clinic is designed to stabilize these patients, develop individual, multimodal, treatment plans and return them to their medical home.
